Liverpool's resounding 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday was marred by an incident which many now believe could signal the end of the line for one key player.

In new footage that has emerged today, Darwin Nunez is shown heading straight for the tunnel as soon as the match was over, passing up the opportunity to show appreciation to the home fans like the rest of his teammates.

Paired with his subsequent actions, which saw him purge his Instagram account of all posts relating to his time at Liverpool, this has ignited speculation about his future at the club.

Chris Sutton slams Nunez's behaviour

Former England striker, Chris Sutton, minced no words in his assessment of Nunez's behaviour.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton said: "If somebody does that we assume he wants out or is off somewhere. He’s certainly brought attention to it and you’ve cottoned on to it."

Sutton then drew on his own experiences of such situations, saying: “I mean at least years ago when players wanted to leave they didn’t have all this nonsense, they could have all their own thoughts and keep it under wraps.

"But it’s also a pretty dumb move on his part if he wanted a move to sneak under the radar and nobody cotton on to something.

"It just looks like he’s going to be on his way, or he’s deeply unhappy with the club."

Is patience running out with Nunez?

The Uruguayan's frustrations have stemmed from his recent omission from the starting line-up.

Recent displays have often left a lot to be desired, and Nunez is now without a goal since the 3-1 win over Sheffield United in early April.

He hasn't started the last few games and his cameo on Sunday typified his time at Anfield as he squandered a few promising opportunities, while nonetheless finding himself heavily involved in Liverpool's attacking play.

However, the suggestion of Nunez seeking an exit sits at odds with the significant investment Liverpool made in acquiring him for approximately £64 million from Benfica two summers ago.

That said, he has been afforded ample opportunities this season, featuring in over 50 matches for Liverpool, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

But such a reaction is unlikely to stop rumours circulating over the forward's future, with recent reports suggesting that the 24-year-old could leave Anfield this summer.

With Arne Slot coming into replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, Nunez should be offered a fresh start under the Dutch coach, while he also has a summer of Copa America action to look forward to.
