A generational right-back could finally replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Conor Bradley's injury has highlighted a problem for Richard Hughes. A problem we all felt he would have coming into the season.

The truth is that despite making the recruitment team making their best efforts to replace Alexander-Arnold, they haven't been able to.

It's becoming very apparent that his replacement Jeremie Frimpong is regarded as a winger by Arne Slot. Dominik Szoboszlai has played as a right-back more often than the Dutchman but he is also not a sustainable option in that position.

On top of everything, Liverpool are also missing the creativity Alexander-Arnold provided. Florian Wirtz was supposed to mitigate that but he hasn't. Not yet anyway.

So, it's looking very clear that Liverpool are going to have to invest in a right-back come the summer window at the very least. We'd like it to happen in January, but that's not usually how Liverpool operate.

And to be honest, considering the best options are likely only going to be available in the summer anyway it makes a lot of sense for Liverpool to wait.

There's one player in particular who seems like the perfect fit and who Liverpool won't be able to sign in January but will definitely be in the mix for come the summer.

They were already in the mix for him last summer.

We all know Richard Hughes has strong Italian connections and last summer according to a report, Marco Palestra was a player the Reds made an offer to sign.

In the end, that offer was rejected and Palestra has gone out on loan in Serie A from Atalanta to Cagliari, where he has excelled in his role.

Palestra is the perfect modern day right-back. He is extremely fast and he is comfortable with both feet. He predominantly plays as a right-back but he can also play as a left-back making him the ideal squad player.

The speed and the way he looks to create are the assets that make him a stand-out option in the market. On top of that there's also his age.

He is only 20-years-old. He can still grow and develop so much in the coming seasons.

He's in the 96th percentile for progressive carries (3.76 per 90 minutes) and for successful take-ons (4.31 per 90 minutes).

When it comes to his ball carrying ability and speed, he's got enormous potential and he could become an elite right-back in world football, the kind of elite who could ultimately replace Alexander-Arnold and finally solve Hughes' dilemma from last summer.
