Liverpool were busy earlier in the transfer window, getting plenty of business sorted early.

Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Armin Pecsi and Milos Kerkez were all confirmed before the start of July, suggesting that the club was going to be particularly threatening next season in all competitions.

Right now, however, things are on hold while everyone mourns Diogo Jota's passing - a situation that happened in a blink of an eye, and is something that has shocked the world of football.

The players, the staff and the executives at the club are all otherwise engaged and for the time being, nothing should be expected from them. They are grieving the loss in their own way.

However, as the new season starts to approach, the club might decide to become active in the transfer market once again, and a target from before the change in circumstances may be looked at.

Liverpool like Giovanni Leoni

In a report from ParmaToday, published on July 1 - before Jota's passing - Giovanni Leoni was linked with a potential move to Liverpool to add depth to the Reds' defensive ranks.

The 18-year-old Italian centre-back only moved to Parma from Sampdoria last year for £4.1m.

However, their sources are claiming that Liverpool are the team that have shown the most interest in a potential move for him, which would be a transfer based purely on the potential he has shown.

Now that Jarell Quansah has moved to Leverkusen, this might be a potential long-term replacement.

However, an approach of around €30m would need to be made for initial conversations to begin.

Whether the Reds decide to make any further transfers this summer is still being decided. Right now, as you can understand, there are far more important things on people's minds.

However, Liverpool might look to renew their interest in former targets if recruitment is still on the to-do list and Leoni would be a fascinating transfer if he was keen on a move to the Premier League.

Nothing is set in stone, in fact the opposite is true. But this might be something to keep an eye on in the future if the club's interest remains when operations start back up again.
