Liverpool closing in on truly AWFUL transfer agreement
Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a truly awful transfer agreement. This shouldn't be happening.
Liverpool have been incredibly quiet in the January transfer window, despite the problems in their squad. Giovanni Leoni being out for the season has left them very short at centre-back, for one.
The Reds tried to bring Marc Guehi to the club in the summer and after failing, the sense was that they'd try to find someone - Guehi or otherwise - in January. That has not happened.
Making things worse, Conor Bradley is also out for the season. Liverpool are light at both centre-back and right-back - and actually, even lighter than you'd think as Joe Gomez is now expected to cover both of those positions.
His own injury record isn't exactly perfect but there's an incredible reliance on him right now. And maybe he'll have to play left-back, too.
Andy Robertson in Tottenham Hotspur talks
It's now widely reported, initially from the Athletic, that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are in talks about Andy Robertson. Robertson, whose contract expires in the summer, is thought to want more regular football.
But on paper, this is a truly awful transfer and we're not sure what Liverpool are thinking in entertaining this. Literally the only positives appear to be a small fee from Spurs and getting Robertson's wages off the books.
Is that worth it? Liverpool are already light in defence and this move only makes them even lighter - and at a time when there's a very real chance that they finish outside the top five this season.
Losing Robertson makes that more likely. Not only because of the lack of squad depth his sale would bring but also because he's the club's vice-captain. Liverpool could use his experience and personality around the squad - cutting it for a bit of money seems insane, quite honestly.
Finishing outside the UEFA Champions League places would negate any money saved by losing Robertson. Is that really worth the risk? An injury to Milos Kerkez would leave Liverpool without a left-back unless the plan here is to bring Kostas Tsimikas back.
But then you're banking on a left-back that Liverpool didn't think was good enough in the summer, struggled to move on before the window shut, and who AS Roma are ready to move on from already. Also, bringing Tsimikas's wages back onto the books lessens the financial positive of selling Robertson early.
It is difficult to see why Liverpool are considering this now. Perhaps Robertson himself is pushing hard for it - if that's the case, it's a little more reasonable.
But it wouldn't change it from being a poor, risky transfer that weakens an already-weak Liverpool.

I have no idea what our owners are doing but it is not something I am a fan of.
