Liverpool closing in on new winger as agreement struck
Liverpool are now one step closer to signing their new winger after agreeing a deal for their midfielder.
With the departure of Luis Diaz there is a spot to be filled in the Liverpool squad. Currently, the Reds have just Cody Gakpo who is a natural left-winger in the squad.

Sure, Rio Ngumoha has burst onto the scene in pre-season and he can be an option for the role. However, he is only 16-years-old, Liverpool will need to manage him carefully in order to make sure his long-term career is not put into jeopardy.
Ngumoha has shown he will be capable of coming up against senior defenders but can he do that week in, week out? That's something that is completely unfair to expect from a player of his age.
That's why it would make sense to bring in a player who can be another option on the left-wing and take that load off of Ngumoha in the absence of Diaz.
Who may be the best player for that role?
The answer is simple. It's Malick Fofana. Liverpool have been heavily linked with the winger this summer and the 20-year-old seems like the perfect option.
His directness, speed and one vs one ability makes him pretty much tailor-made for Arne Slot's style of play. But what makes him even more suited for what the Reds are looking for is his versatility.
Fofana has predominantly played on the left-wing but he's not just a left-winger. In fact, he's comfortable with both feet and has played a lot of minutes on the right-wing too, meaning he could potentially be an option in that position as well.
On top of that, he's played as a false nine, too, giving Slot yet another option, and ensuring that with his arrival Ngumoha would still be able to breakthrough but there would be no pressure on the young teenager to be playing regularly.
Liverpool are now a step closer to getting their man. They have struck an agreement with Lyon for the sale of Tyler Morton according to a recent report.
That means there is a good working rapport between the two sides. Liverpool's agreement for the sale of Morton undoubtedly increases the likelihood of Lyon sitting down and doing business with the Reds and being more open to the sale of Fofana.
Liverpool like to do this kind of business, too. Just take a look at this summer. They negotiated the transfer of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong with Bayer Leverkusen, before selling them Jarell Quansah.
In the summer fo 2023 after they signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, they agreed to loan Fabio Carvalho to the German side.
So this is not a far fetched opinion, there is definitely more legs to this Fofana story and the deal has moved one step closer.
