Ibrahima Konate wants three guarantees from Liverpool before signing a new contract, according to reports. The Frenchman's deal expires in seven months.

The clock is ticking on Ibrahima Konate’s contract as January continues to get closer. Once the New Year ticks over, non-English clubs will be able to agree a pre-contract deal with the defender.

Liverpool don’t want that to happen, of course. They’re eager to renew Konate’s deal - though, not at any cost. And that’s a problem when the likes of Real Madrid are sniffing around, hoping to get another elite free transfer.

The Reds have a little over a month of ‘exclusive’ negotiation rights with Konate. After that, it’s fair game for Real Madrid to offer him a deal.

So with the clock ticking, Konate apparently has three guarantees he’s after in order to re-sign with Liverpool.

Teamtalk reports that Konate wants some promises from Liverpool. These don't even include the financial side of things, either, suggesting the Frenchman is after the perfect environment right now.

That does make sense, to be fair. Konate is now 26 and this next contract is the big one, covering his prime years as a footballer. He will understandably want to spend those years playing at the highest possible level.

“Ibou loves Liverpool, but he wants guarantees—minutes, trophies, and a project,” one insider told Teamtalk. “If the right deal comes, he’ll listen.”

Now, Liverpool can certainly guarantee a project - they've just spent £400m on one. They can guarantee trophies about as well as any team, too, having won the Premier League last season.

It's actually the minutes that are a potential problem. Liverpool have one more year of Virgil van Dijk after this season, and potentially more if they renew his contract.

But they've quite openly tried to sign Marc Guehi. That's a player who could usurp Konate in the pecking order, unless Arne Slot plans on moving to a back three.

Can Liverpool guarantee minutes, then? Or are they hoping to replace Konate as a first-choice option, even just for one season?
