Ibrahima Konate RESPONDS to Liverpool's latest contract offer
Liverpool remain in a contract standoff with Ibrahima Konate.
The 26-year-old defender was signed from RB Leipzig for £35m back in 2021 - but his current deal expires at the end of the season.
If no new agreement is reached then the France international will be walking away for free in summer 2026.
Although Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are reported to have cooled their interest in the potential free agent - while Bayern Munich have worked hard to renew Dayot Upamecano’s contract - Konate will still be an attractive free agent for many clubs.
Konate rejects Liverpool offer
Konate has been entitled to speak to overseas clubs about a summer Bosman deal since January 1 but right now Liverpool don’t believe that their centre-back has agreed terms with any other team.
That’s according to a new report in TEAMtalk which states that the Reds remain hopeful of tying him down to a new deal.
Konate appears to have priced himself out of a move elsewhere - with a French report last week stating that PSG were unable to satisfy his contract demands.
Konate looking for less than £300k per week
Liverpool too haven’t been willing to give Konate what he wants in contract negotiations - with the report revealing that the sums required are LESS than £300k per week.
Still the Premier League champions have been left frustrated in talks with Konate as the player has REJECTED several offers including one in the last month.
Sporting director Richard Hughes was probably trying to get ahead of the competition with his latest contract offer to Konate - but no offers have so far come in for the player on a free transfer.
Therefore Konate is left with one clear choice - drop his demands in order to get a deal from Liverpool or any of his European suitors.
The Frenchman and his entourage may have overestimated the demand for his services and as we tick towards the end of the season all options remain very much in play.
