Hugo Ekitike was one of many new players that Liverpool signed during the 2025-26 summer transfer window.

The striker was brought in for over £60 million and although many people thought that they spent far too much on the Frenchman, he's actually been in better form than Alexander Isak.

Despite this, the former Eintracht Frankfurt striker has been left on Liverpool's bench in their recent games with Arne Slot likely hoping that Isak would finally find his feet.

And, while he may have managed to bag his first Premier League goal of the season, his performances have still been underwhelming.

However, with Liverpool's poor run of form, rumours have started to emerge about the future of some of their players with Mohamed Salah being linked with an Anfield exit once again.

Mohamed Salah could end up exiting Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League

Before Salah chose to extend his Liverpool contract last term, rumours about a potential move for the Egyptian were rife.

Several clubs wanted to secure his services and make him one of the highest-paid players in the world.

In the end, it wasn't meant to be with the attacker agreeing to a contract extension at Anfield.

Since that extension, Salah has been half the player he was last season and to be honest, there have been times when Liverpool have looked better without him among their ranks.

This sudden downturn in form was rather unexpected with most fans left baffled by the Egyptian's poor form.

However, as per a new report from The i Paper, two Saudi Pro League clubs could be given enough funds to sign the attacker.

The report states that the offer will come nowhere near the £200 million that Al-Ittihad offered two years ago.

Later in the article, the following was shared by a 'well placed source.'

“Several senior figures at PIF (Saudi’s Public Investment Fund) and within the Pro League believe the power lies with them,” they wrote.

“Mo’s form, unhappiness about not being in the team, Liverpool’s need to change something and the fact they have too many strikers all help push him to the Middle East.”

Why Hugo Ekitike will be buzzing with the recent Mohamed Salah exit news

One of the main reasons why Liverpool haven't opted for a narrow formation this season is due to the presence of Salah.

The winger was one of their best players last season and without him, they wouldn't have won the Premier League title.

However, if he were to exit in January, this would give Slot the perfect excuse to start both Ekitike and Isak alongside one another on a regular basis.

Both strikers deserve to start for Liverpool but since they're only at their best when used as number nines, Salah's presence makes it hard for them to regularly start together.

A change in formation and tactics would likely give the Reds the exact sort of boost they need to get their campaign back on track.

And, since both Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa can also be used as the focal point, a narrower formation makes plenty of sense.
