Hugo Ekitike seems to be closing in on a move to Liverpool and he is pretty much Arne Slot's dream forward.

There have been a lot of divided opinions about the Frenchman's arrival. A section of the club's supporters have been holding out hopes for a deal for Alexander Isak.

That deal though seems unlikely to come to fruition but it doesn't matter for Liverpool. We've already written about why we believe Ekitike has the potential to become even better than Isak.

There's simply a lot to like about the 23-year-old, who is three years younger than the Newcastle forward, and who will be arriving for a lot less than what Liverpool would have had to pay for Isak.

According to Ben Jacobs writing in GiveMeSport, Liverpool are closing in on an agreement for in excess of £70m, which would be a lot less than the £120m+ being quoted for Isak.

Richard Hughes still has a few loose ends to tie up on this Ekitike deal, but Jacobs claims Liverpool have already agreed a six-year deal with the player so only an agreement with Frankfurt remains.

Getting Ekitike for around £70m would be a huge agreement for Liverpool. Hughes would be bringing in an exciting player and would still have room to bring in another attacker if he wishes. It would be getting two for the price of one Isak.

Why Ekitike is the dream signing for Liverpool

Last season Arne Slot often spoke about wanting a facilitator and a goal-scorer as his no.9. The Dutchman has stressed the fact that he wants his forward to be a versatile player - who can give multiple options and who is unpredictable for defenders.

Ekitike is exactly that. He'll take on a large volume of shots, but he'll also look for a pass and he'll look to link-up with his teammates with clever flicks and first touches.

Despite his tall frame, he is a very good player on the ball, someone with great technical qualities and who excels in one vs one situations using his nimble feet in tight spaces and rapid speed to accelerate past his opponents in space.

Having played alongside a lot of of creative players, Ekitike thrives with players who are of similar technical elegance.

In this Liverpool team he is a dream option alongside Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah. You'll put him in and he will put their chances away and create chances for them as well.

Obviously, he's a little bit more raw than an Isak and unproven in the Premier League but when it comes to a perfect fit for this Liverpool team, you won't get better than him.

It's important to note that he thrives from crosses as well. Maybe not his biggest asset yet but in the last calendar year he has scored four headed goals for Frankfurt and with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong both ranking high for their deliveries in Europe's top five leagues - this could be another factor as to why the Reds have gone for Ekitike.

The vision is very clear for Liverpool. Ekitike moves the needle for Slot's side and makes them an even better team. He's the dream of what you want Liverpool's no.9 to be and that is why Hughes has acted so fast to get this deal over the line.
