How bringing in Bazoumana Toure fixes Liverpool's biggest problem
Bringing in Bazoumana Toure fixes Liverpool's biggest problem.
The Ivorian is the latest winger to appear on the club's radar. Toure has been scouted extensively over the course of the season and he is a player who Liverpool admire.
It's easy to see why.
Toure has been one of the brightest young wingers in Germany since arriving at Hoffenheim from Hammarby. Only Luis Diaz and Michael Olise have registered more assists than the Ivorian out of wingers in the Bundesliga this season.
He's a key component of Hoffenheim's successful team under Christian Ilzer, who stand with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
Toure is also the perfect profile, he only just turned 20-years-old but has a lot of experience. He played first-team football at ASEC Mimosas, has an entire year under his belt playing at Hammarby and he's now spent just under 18 months in the Bundesliga.
A key part of the Ivorian national team, for whom he has scored twice and has registered one assist in just over 200 minutes, Toure feels like the next star alongside fellow Liverpool target Yan Diomande.
Just based on his profile, it's easy to see why he would be a Liverpool target. But the real reason the Reds will want him is because he fixes the club's biggest problem.
What has Arne Slot's side missed so far this season?
A proper wide player, who excels in one vs one situations and who brings speed and intensity to the attack.
Well, Toure ticks all of those boxes.
He's very much and out-and-out winger who loves to stay on the flanks and take on his opponents, especially on the outside being a left-footed left-winger.
Whether it's cut-backs or crosses into the box, Toure creates chances for his teammates and is one of the best at doing so in Europe's top five leagues.
He has the best dribble completion rate out of players who average at least 4.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga (69%). He's clocked the fifth highest top-speed in the league (35.8km/h).
He has made the most sprints (632) in the Bundesliga this season - and this is with missing several games of the campaign due to being at the African Cup of Nations.
On top of that, Toure ranks second for possession-adjusted interceptions (3.59) and 3.12 recoveries per 90 minutes in the opposition's final third among his positional peers.
He ranks 7th for possessions won in the opposition's final third (1.0 per 90) in the Bundesliga overall as well.
So, on paper he fixes Liverpool's biggest problem. He makes them capable of being a team who depends from the front with his pressing and he also adds speed and one vs one ability when the Reds do go forward.
He's the perfect solution.
