An exciting German defender has just taken a step closer to joining Liverpool.

German influence has played a defining role in the club modern era, and that is mostly thanks to Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff.

Klopp reshaped the club’s identity with his high-intensity gegenpressing style. He turned the Reds from doubters into believers.

Post-Klopp, there is a new German era at Anfield with the arrival of Florian Wirtz. The German international is his country's biggest star and one of the main faces of the global brand Adidas.

Liverpool paid a club record fee for Wirtz when he was purchased last summer, although this was broken again latter on in the summer, the German is very much regarded as the new face of the Reds.

And he may soon be joined by other Germans at the club.

Liverpool continue their hunt for a centre-back even with the expected arrival of Jeremy Jacquet. It is not known what the future holds for Ibrahima Konate beyond his current contract which expires at the end of the season.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez also have expiring contracts in 2027.

So, Liverpool need more bodies and one name on the club's radar is Nnamdi Collins. The German international is a target for Liverpool according to Sky Sports.

The report claims Collins has taken what can be construed as a huge step towards the Reds by changing his agency recently and that he wants to move this summer.

A German international, Collins seems like an ideal profile for Liverpool.

Blessed with outstanding pace, he is comfortable defending large spaces which is a crucial requirement for a team that operates with a high defensive line.

His recovery speed allows him to track runners in behind and he reads the game extremely well.

Beyond his physical tools, Collins is composed in possession. He is used to building out from the back and stepping forward with the ball when space opens up in Frankfurt's current system.

That willingness to carry possession into midfield would suit Liverpool’s progressive style, helping break opposition lines rather than simply recycling play sideways.

He is also strong in one vs one situations and aggressive in duels making him potentially ready-made for the Premier League. Not to mention he is versatile capable of playing as a full-back as well as a centre-back.

At 22-years-old, Collins offers both immediate depth and the potential be a starter in the long-term. For the right price, this is a move that would make a lot of sense for the Reds.

It's clear he's already taking steps to make it happen.
