German midfielder confirms he's ready to join Liverpool
An exciting German midfielder has confirmed he's ready to join Liverpool after a brilliant performance.
Florian Wirtz became a bit of an outlier in the summer when he rejected Bayern Munich in order to sign for the Reds.
In the past we haven't really seen many German superstars do that. But Wirtz could be setting a trend for others to follow in the coming years.
Liverpool's influence has already grown a lot in Germany thanks to Jurgen Klopp's time at the club. It encompassed close to a decade and with Klopp being so popular in Germany, many in the country developed a close affinity to Liverpool.
That's likely going to have an impact on the younger generation. Players like Wirtz and others.
In the coming years, more and more German talent could end-up at Anfield. Liverpool have already set their sights on Nico Schlotterbeck but there's another player even more deserving.
Right now, Liverpool are looking at a very certain profile of midfielder to invest in. They're looking for a player who is a ball carrier and bit a clone to Gravenberch.
Someone who could provide cover and also competition. Ayyoub Bouaddi is a name very highly considered by the club. Another is Kees Smit.
What characterises both of them is the fact that they are excellent ball carriers.
But they won't be the only midfielder on the club's radar. Liverpool could also turn towards a destination favoured by Michael Edwards and co.
Red Bull.
Over the last few years, so many of the club's signings have come from either Red Bull Salzburg or RB Leipzig.
Now there's another exciting star catching the eye at the German side who has been on Liverpool's radar in the past.
We're talking about Assan Ouedraogo. Back when he broke onto the scene as a teenager at Schalke, Liverpool wanted to sign him.
Ultimately, he chose RB Leipzig. Last season, he suffered an injury which curtailed his development. But this season he's back and he's playing some brilliant football.
In just 471 minutes, he has two goals and four assists for Leipzig, averaging a goal or assist every 78 minutes. Now if that's not confirmation that he's ready to join Liverpool, then his debut for Germany's national team should be.
Ouedraogo made his debut for the senior national team against Slovakia, replacing Wirtz.
And within minutes he found the back of the net with a stunning finish. It was a brilliant statement and brilliant cameo from the young man. One that should have piqued Liverpool's interest once again.
Still only 19-years-old, he's an exciting young talent and his latest performances are proof that he's ready to make the step-up. If Liverpool want a similar profile to Gravenberch, then he's the perfect option.
