Liverpool have five names in mind as they seek a massive change. The Reds know something drastic must happen to turn this campaign around.

Liverpool will try to turn their season around with a big January transfer window. That's the line from various outlets right now - though, it's unclear exactly how that will take shape.

Christian Falk, for instance, claims Liverpool will try to sign a centre-back. He also says that they could sell Ibrahima Konate as he enters the final six months of his deal - something that would surely mean a second centre-back arrives.

The Reds have also been linked fairly consistently with Antoine Semenyo, who will have a £65m release clause next year. That's a decent fee for a homegrown, Premier League-proven winger. Especially one as in-form as he is.

Could a midfielder be on the agenda, too? Links to Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson are there, though both would be incredibly difficult to sign mid-season.

And perhaps that's why Liverpool are supposedly focusing on a centre-back.

Liverpool's centre-back shortlist

So Liverpool want an elite centre-back, says Caughtoffside. They hope to bring at least one in and we’ll then see what’s happening with Konate.

But it’s clear that the Reds want to make a massive change in their defence. Marc Guehi is the favourite to arrive - he’ll also enter the final six months of his deal once the New Year ticks over and Liverpool are huge fans of his.

They tried to sign the defender in the summer, of course, only for Crystal Palace to collapse the deal at the last moment. Liverpool will try again in 2026.

But there are some other big names on the shortlist, says the CO report. Nico Schlotterbeck is one of those, a player we’re great fans of.

Portuguese duo Antonio Silva of Benfica and Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP are both mentioned, too. That’s a pair of names who have been linked with Liverpool several times over the years.

Finally, there’s Dayot Upamecano. He’s yet another centre-back with an expiring contract and Liverpool would try to take advantage in the summer.

One of these five, then? It seems we’re close to learning the name of Liverpool’s next centre-back.
