Ekitike, 23, is probably further along than Brazil international Rodrygo at this stage but it’s no secret Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are demanding improvements up top.

But Liverpool’s transfer plans are not ONLY for the here and now.

Liverpool want to sign Will Wright

The club have got one of the best youth and academy programs around - and do not rest on their laurels. Signings like Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha confirm the club’s future is in safe hands and recruiters are always on the lookout for the best talents around.

Their search led recently led them to Will Wright, a 17-year-old Salford City prodigy who scored over 40 goals for various sides last season.

The strapping centre-forward even played at senior level against Manchester City in the FA Cup and has impressed in pre-season - scoring four goals in three games.

Arsenal secure Will Wright deal

Liverpool were tipped to wrap up a ÂŁ300k move for Wright but Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the club have been pipped at the post by Arsenal.

“Arsenal have agreed deal to sign 17 year old talented striker Will Wright, documents being prepared,” Romano wrote on X.

“Arsenal won the race despite interest from several clubs.”

That’s despite Liverpool closing in on a new U18 coach in Simon Wiles - who coached Wright at Salford.

This one will have to go down as a transfer loss but no doubt there will be other promising talents the Reds have their eyes on.

Liverpool have signed Nyoni to a new professional contract this summer with Ngumoha expected to follow suit once he turns 17 next month.
