Door OPENS for Liverpool to finally replace Trent Alexander-Arnold
The door has opened for Liverpool to finally replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Let's be honest, the Reds are missing their former no.66. Obviously, the club's massive plight this season is not solely down to Alexander-Arnold's departure.
However, some of the struggles in build-up and creativity have been directly impacted by his lack of presence in the team and therefore the lack of players with the technical nous and ability to do what Alexander-Arnold did best.
At the same time, it's also important to note that we have discovered throughout the season that Arne Slot does not necessarily deem Jeremie Frimpong as a right-back.
In fact he's often played him as a right-winger instead. Sometimes Dominik Szoboszlai has started ahead of Frimpong at right-back.
So, the reality is that Liverpool have not even replaced Alexander-Arnold with a right-back. Meanwhile, Conor Bradley suffered an injury that means he's out for the rest of the season.
It means that looking ahead to next season, Liverpool are likely going to have to bring in more reinforcements and address the right-back question.
How they plan on doing that hinges on many things.
But the likeliest way is by entering the market and signing an actual right-back this summer. And the player they seem to be targeting according to Florian Plettenberg as per TEAMtalk is Givairo Read.
The report claims that Bayern Munich and Liverpool are both very interested in the Feyenoord right-back, but the former is currently focusing on several costly contract extensions which means the door is open for Richard Hughes to pounce and secure a deal for the talented right-back before anyone else.
What makes Read such an intriguing profile is that he is only 19-years-old but already has a lot of experience under his belt.
On top of everything else, he has Champions League and Europa League experience which elevates him above other options.
In terms of his profile, he is a bit of a hybrid as a full-back. He can invert into the middle and play those long vertical passes that Alexander-Arnold used to do.
But Read is also quick and he can overlap if he needs to in order to support the attack that way.
On top of that he is also an excellent one vs one defender, and has made the likes of Rafael Leao struggle against him in the Champions League.
He is the perfect package, and what makes it even better is that Slot knows him well. He gave Read his debut while at Feyenoord.
We know just how high Slot's standards are at Liverpool. He doesn't hand out debuts for the fun of it, so he must rate Read very highly.
The only thing remaining is for Hughes to wrap up the deal and once for all replace Alexander-Arnold.
