Door opens for fan favourite defender to agree move away from Anfield
Liverpool supporters have become accustomed to speculation about their favourite players leaving, but a few big exits do seem to be on the horizon.
Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield was seriously questioned when the Egyptian King spoke out against the club before Christmas.
Although the situation has calmed down significantly since, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the forward depart in the near future.
Ibrahima Konate’s exit also looks likely, with the Frenchman now in the final six months of his current deal and talks over a renewal seeming to have stalled completely.
It isn’t just Salah and Konate who could be on their way out though, another fan favourite is now being linked with a move to another Premier League side.
Premier League rivals want Liverpool star
Following the arrival of Milos Kerkez in the summer, Kostas Tsimikas joined AS Roma on loan for the season.
With Andrew Robertson also having less than six months remaining on his deal, many believed that Tsimikas would re-join Liverpool at the end of the season to serve as backup to Kerkez if Robertson did leave Anfield.
Now it looks as though the Greek icon may make his Premier League return sooner than planned as The Athletic are reporting that Nottingham Forest are keen to bring the 29-year-old to the City Ground this winter.
Tsimikas has struggled for minutes in Italy and would be a welcome addition to Sean Dyche’s side as they fight for Premier League safety.
Could Liverpool lose their cult hero permanently?
Since his arrival in Merseyside in 2020, Tsimikas has become a true hero among the Anfield faithful.
Known as ‘the Greek Scouser’, the eccentric left-back cemented himself in Liverpool history when he scored the winning penalty in a shootout against Chelsea in the 2022 FA Cup final.
The Athletic’s report doesn’t confirm whether Forest are looking to secure Tsimikas’ services permanently or whether they are looking to take over Roma’s current loan deal, but a permanent exit wouldn’t be a shock.
With many optimistic that vice-captain Robertson will sign a new deal at Anfield, there is no clear pathway to game time for Tsimikas at Liverpool anymore.
Before joining the Reds Tsimikas played for Olympiacos, who are also owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, and a move to Forest could eventually lead to a move back to his former club.
Supporters would no doubt be sad to see Tsimikas go but will wish the Anfield icon the best when he does take the next step in his career.
