David Ornstein understands Liverpool have made a decision on Mo Salah

David Ornstein has an update on Mo Salah and it appears Liverpool have made up their mind. The Egyptian's future has been up in the air.

Mo Salah's future has been far from clear after his comments a week ago. Salah spoke after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United and made it clear that he's unhappy with his status at Liverpool.

That came after three consecutive starts from the bench for Salah - the first time that had happened at the Reds. That stretch has now become five consecutive matches without the winger in their starting XI.

He was entirely left out of the squad to face Inter but did return vs Brighton this weekend. More than that, Salah got onto the pitch early after an injury to Joe Gomez and played very well.

And that's been the key thing here. Salah has not played well - but is that his fault or the team's fault? After all, virtually no one has performed consistently this season, particularly in attack, and Liverpool haven't been getting results.

This all comes with a strange backdrop, too. There is clear interest from Saudi Arabia in Salah and has been for some time.

But there were several major reports about that interest immediately before the Leeds United game. So did that play a role? Are Liverpool actually looking to sell Salah?

David Ornstein on Mo Salah's future

David Ornstein understands that there is no plan for Liverpool to sell Salah. They'd very much prefer he remains at Anfield - if he wants to.

"As I understand it, Liverpool fully intend to keep Mo Salah," he told NBC Sports. "They want him to remain, not only in the January transfer window, but beyond, until at least the end of the season.

“He's under contract until the summer of 2027 and Liverpool feel that they showed their intentions very clearly by renewing him at great expense back in May.

“I think their view would be this has been brought about by Salah and his desire to be guaranteed regular football, and that's not something that any club, certainly not Liverpool, despite the legendary status of Salah are going to be willing to deliver.

“And that seems to be at the heart of this, at the centre of discussions which Arne Slot said began before Leeds.”

We'll have to see how things play out once Salah is back from AFCON. We may not see him back at Liverpool for well over a month, in fact.

It could actually be a very interesting return, too. Liverpool will almost certainly continue to play their narrow style in his absence and it's one that Salah might actually prefer to play once he's back.

So again, we'll see. There's absolutely a place for the Egyptian at Liverpool still and one where he's a key player. Hopefully, everyone involved still sees it that way come January.
