Brilliant €30m LIFELINE handed to Liverpool misfit
Liverpool are handing a €30m lifeline to one misfit as they continue their incredible transfer window. Here’s the latest.
Liverpool are on the verge of signing Giovanni Leoni from Parma. The 18-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in European football right now and the Reds are eager to snap him up.
Of course, they need a new centre-back anyway. Jarell Quansah left Liverpool this summer for Bayer Leverkusen and the Reds never moved for a replacement.

An injury to Joe Gomez then highlighted the need for reinforcements there. There were no backup options on the bench last Sunday - a situation reminiscent of 2020.
Liverpool are excited to add Leoni, then. He’s already got some Serie A experience under his belt and lots about his game gives fans reasons to be excited.
The potential is off the charts, basically, which is why Liverpool are willing to pay €30m for such an inexperienced player. But that doesn’t mean the inexperience isn’t a concern.
Federico Chiesa lifeline
Leoni will arrive at Liverpool with a lot of question marks. It’s why having a compatriot - and someone who has a wealth of experience at the highest level - is such a massive bonus.
Federico Chiesa is still very much a Liverpool player and one who suddenly has a bit of a lifeline at Anfield. The Italian was widely expected to leave the club this summer, and in some quarters still is, but no move has come about.
In fact, the Reds still don’t have a proper backup for Mo Salah in the squad, especially if Harvey Elliott departs as expected. The fact that Chiesa fills that role comfortably while also providing a natural way to bed-in Leoni makes him a valuable option to have.
Now, this isn’t to say that Chiesa is definitely staying with Liverpool for the upcoming season. But Leoni’s arrival gives the Reds another reason to hold onto him - a reason why he may be superior to other potential options on the wing.
That could ultimately be enough to make him the pick. He knows the squad, can help Leoni, and does fit the bill. What counts against him is that Arne Slot didn’t appear to fancy him last season.
But perhaps that changes now he’s finally got a pre-season under his belt. Time will tell on that one but the Leoni deal might just edge things in that direction.
