Liverpool will soon require a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian King, 33, is contracted at Anfield until 2027 - but is widely expected to depart before then. Having agreed a £400k per week contract last year Liverpool do stand to make some money on the forward if he leaves before the end of his deal.

Suitors won’t be in short supply either with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund keen to make the two-time African Footballer of the Year the new face of the Saudi Pro League.

And if Salah leaves it creates a huge opportunity for a new forward to arrive and make an impact.

Liverpool watching Endrick at Lyon

According to a recent report in the Spanish press the Real Madrid forward Endrick is effectively auditioning for a role at Liverpool in the second half of this season.

The 19-year-old has endured a tough spell at the Bernabeu - leading to a loan spell at Lyon for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Brazil international is desperate to retain his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and understands his Madrid future is also in doubt.

Endrick off to perfect start

And should Endrick perform well during the rest of the season then Liverpool may well consider replacing Salah with the former Palmeiras academy star.

Capable of playing up front as a No9 or else off the left Endrick has got all the characteristics necessary to make a successful career at the very highest levels.

And while it hasn’t quite happened for him at Madrid so far he’s got off to a great start at Lyon. He made his debut on Sunday night as Lyon faced Lille in the Coupe de France.

Endrick could replace Salah

Given a starting role by Paulo Fonseca, Endrick has taken no time to settle - netting the goal which ultimately handed his side a 2-1 victory and progress in the French cup.

No doubt Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes will be paying very close attention to a potential Salah successor for the second half of the season.

Endrick is contracted to Madrid until 2030 and the Spanish capital club may well be willing to do a deal at an amenable price. There is certainly a player still in there and Liverpool stand to benefit in summer if he can hit the net consistently.
