At this moment in time the biggest transfer talking point around Liverpool is the future of Luis Diaz.

The Colombian has two years left on his current deal at Anfield. Liverpool are in no hurry to extend Diaz's contract.

He will be 29-years-old by the end of next season and the Reds rarely sign long-term deals with players of similar ages.

In the long-term, Liverpool have high hopes for Rio Ngumoha, who could potentially succeed Diaz when his contract expires in 2027.

Which is why the club would be happy to run down Diaz's deal. Especially because the Colombian is on favourable terms.

However, Diaz himself is keen to get a new deal and this is why he has appeared on the radar of both Barcelona and Bayern Munich so far.

The German and the Spanish giants are both in need of a left-winger and Diaz has naturally appeared on their radar. However, neither side has been willing to meet Liverpool's demands.

Those demands according to Sport are 82 million Euros, or roughly £71m, which is a reasonable price considering the current market, where vastly inferior wingers like Anthony Elanga and Noni Madueke are going for over £50m.

At this moment in time, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are relying on Diaz to push for a move and Liverpool's valuation to go down.

According to the above report, that is what Barcelona are hoping for. If Diaz puts in a transfer request, Liverpool will be forced to sell. But whether the Colombian is willing to do that remains to be seen.

Diaz is happy at Liverpool. At this moment in time it doesn't seem likely that he will force a move but his stance could change.

More importantly, Barcelona's stance could also change. Sport claims they could even be willing to take a radical step in their pursuit.

The Catalans want to sign a left-winger and targeted Nico Williams for that role but they missed out on his signature after he signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao.

Now Diaz is Barcelona's next target. However, if Liverpool's asking price doesn't come down, Sport claims, Barcelona are ready to take a radical approach and walk away from the deal by 'throwing in the towel.'

It would be an extreme move considering that would mean Barcelona will have missed out on their first and second choice target of the summer window.

However, given the club's financial restraints it's understandable that Barcelona would take this step. Liverpool's asking price is a fair one but it's also a steep one for a lot of clubs.

Perhaps the best solution for the Reds would be a big money offer from Saudi Arabia. But whether that comes remains to be seen.
