Michael Edwards is not the one leading talks for Liverpool as they attempt to sign Arne Slot from Feyenoord as their new manager.

De Telegraaf reports that Michael Edwards isn't leading talks for Liverpool with Feyenoord over manager Arne Slot. News emerged this week that the Reds want to hire Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Several names have been prominently linked with Liverpool since Klopp announced his intention to step down. Slot, however, wasn't really mentioned until last week.

But it turns out that he's the man Liverpool want. It's a massive chance they're taking, with Slot not really tested in an elite European league, while he hasn't been managing Feyenoord for all that long.

Another notable revelation here, though, is that Edwards isn't leading talks. Many expected him to, having jumped back into club football earlier this year.

It's actually Richard Hughes, however, who's discussing terms. Hughes is the Reds' next sporting director - but he's not due to start until June.

It appears he has started, of sorts, and is the one pressing Feyenoord for a deal.

The report also mentions that Slot sees this move as a dream opportunity and that he was looking to head to the Premier League. That's despite him turning down Tottenham Hotspur last year.

But several members of his backroom staff at Feyenoord have also been asked about following him to Anfield. That's an important step, given plenty of Klopp's current staff will leave in the summer.

All is pointing very strongly towards Slot, then, and perhaps only a deal with Feyenoord stands in the way. That's an interesting one, too, with Liverpool's opening offer being a fair way short of the asking price.

Will they change that quickly? Does Hughes have a limit on what he can offer Feyenoord? These are the big questions facing talks now, because the Slot side of things looks sewn up.
