Arne Slot handed PERFECT solution to Liverpool striker problem
Liverpool have suffered greatly with injury this season, with a number of players currently facing spells on the side-line.
Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Fulham was full of talking points, but one of the biggest was undoubtedly the absence of Hugo Ekitike.
The Frenchman has looked like Liverpool’s biggest threat in front of goal this season and his absence was felt against Fulham.
Ekitike’s issue is reportedly only minor, but his strike partner Alexander Isak is facing a number of months out of action due to a broken leg.
Arne Slot’s lack of options up front is a worrying development but could open the door for one of the club’s brightest talents to finally shine.
Slot should look to academy to fill striker void
Liverpool’s lack of options up front has led to a lot of talk of the club bringing in attacking reinforcements in January, either on loan or permanently.
The Reds looked even more in need of another striker when Ekitike missed out on Sunday, but the solution to Slot’s problems may already be at Anfield.
Reports from December gave a positive update on the recovery of Jayden Danns, who is expected back in full training very soon, and the 19-year-old could prove to be the perfect option for Slot.
Danns has featured once for Liverpool’s first-team this season, a 15-minute cameo in the Reds’ Carabao Cup win over Southampton, but the team’s lack of options up front could see the Englishman thrust right back into the senior squad upon his return from injury.
The 19-year-old has scored three times in just 208 senior minutes for Liverpool, and would be a cost-effective solution to the Reds’ striker problem, allowing Richard Hughes to focus funds elsewhere – for example on a central defender.
Although his career has been badly affected by injury so far, Danns is still one of the highest rated prospects in Liverpool’s academy, and now could be the perfect opportunity for him to prove himself.
