Arne Slot embarrassed as quotes from 2024 re-emerge

Most of Arne Slot's complaints this season has been about the way that teams play against Liverpool.

Last term, the Reds had one of the strongest teams in the world with the club only dropping out of the Champions League after being beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.

No team came close to them in the Premier League and, with the amount of signings that they made in the summer, most people thought that history would repeat itself.

However, that's been far from the case and according to Slot, that's likely been down to the sheer number of low-block formations that they've faced this term.

If any team lines up with a low-block, Liverpool are likely to struggle with their playing style often unable to break down teams who play like that.

However, last season, it didn't seem to be as much of a problem for some reason.

Arne Slot said that he enjoyed playing against low-block teams last season

Over the course of the last season or so, the way that Liverpool play has changed massively.

Whether that be because of the new players that Slot has added to his ranks or the Dutchman just thinking he'd get better performances out of his team, it's clear that Liverpool are trying to play differently.

This has resulted in some concerning performances emerging which, as previously mentioned, Slot said was largely down to the number of low-blocks they've faced.

However, some quotes from 2024 have recently re-emerged which paint a completely different picture about how Slot sees low-block formations.

"I prefer to play against a low block as you have the ball a lot and the other team are far from your goal," he said in quotes relayed by James Pearce.

"You'd expect us to create a lot with the quality we have. If every player plays 5% better than v Forest that will make a massive change."

Arne Slot has been left red-faced by his own comments at Liverpool

Each time Liverpool do anything but win their game, a new excuse leaves Slot's mouth.

The Dutchman has failed his players massively, and, even though some such as Rio Ngumoha have proven time and time again that they're ready for regular first-team football, he continues to start his favourite players over those who deserve to play.

Admittedly, the former AZ Alkmaar boss has little to no options in defence so it's hardly fair to judge him for starting someone such as Virgil van Dijk every other game, but, since the Reds have an abundance of attacking talent available, it's strange that Slot continues to start the same players each week.

Liverpool's team have made it clear that they dislike facing low block formations and yet, despite this, Slot admitted that he loved playing against them last term.

No matter what happens this season, it's not going to change the fact that almost every team in the world knows exactly how to break this current version of Liverpool down and how to stop them from getting the ball into the back of the net.
