Alexander Isak set a piece of unwanted history at Liverpool. The Swede has 'achieved' a feat unseen for 119 year.

Liverpool slumped to yet another defeat on Saturday as Nottingham Forest beat them 3-0 at Anfield. It's now a run of six defeats from seven Premier League games and honestly, this was the worst of the lot.

Forest had control of the game for the vast majority and the team that started the match in 19th place achieved 15 shots against Liverpool. They drastically limited their hosts in the second half, too, and were able to see out the victory as they saw fit.

This wasn't just misfortune or poor form - the Reds were outplayed by a much, much worse team. It's a shock to the system, especially after so many players excelled for their country over the international break.

The pressure is firmly on Arne Slot as a result, who doesn't appear to have an easy answer for this run. A run of results so bad that it's got Alexander Isak setting a 119-year record.

Alexander Isak’s woeful start

Isak started his fourth Premier League match in this one, all of which he’s now lost. It’s an unfathomably bad start to life at Liverpool - especially as he’s the most expensive player in the history of British football.

Opta’s Michael Reid points out on Bluesky that Isak is the first Liverpool player to lose all four of his first league starts for the club since Percy Saul in 1906. So we’re going back some way before the First World War here.

Bizarrely, Saul also joined a Liverpool side that had just won the title. The Reds collapsed in his debut campaign, however, as they finished 15th in 1906/07.

So how’s that for a horrendous omen?

Now, we don’t actually expect Liverpool to finish 15th but let’s be honest, they will do on current form. Things have to turn around quickly so this Isak stat becomes a bizarre trivia piece rather than the start of an awful story.
