Liverpool want to agree deal for 'machine' ahead of Manchester United

The transfer window may be shut but, that doesn't mean that Liverpool aren't already eyeing up their next move.

Andoni Iraola has spent well over £150 million on new players this summer with some such as Ronald Araujo managing to prove why they were brought to L4 in the first place.

Obviously, it's still early in the season so others, such as Bradley Barcola or Victor Munoz could eventually make their claims for a starting role in the Spaniard's plans.

But, for now, they'll just be getting used to their new surroundings and will be trying to figure out how to meet expectations.

However, with how badly Liverpool performed last season, it's clear that several changes still need to be made to their ranks before they're full ready to compete for silverware again.

So, the fact that players are already being linked with a January switch to L4 is hardly surprising.

Liverpool and Manchester United want to sign Tyrick Mitchell in January

Liverpool may have only just signed Milos Kerkez last season to be their long-term successor for Andy Robertson but, based off his appearances from the 2025-26 campaign and the start of this one, he's nowhere near ready for that role yet.

Indeed, when Kostas Tsimikas was used in his place, he somehow performed worse than the Hungarian which has caused fans to demand that a new left-back is brought in.

There were obviously some rumours shared during the summer transfer window but, at the moment, it now seems like an entirely different target has caught Liverpool's eye.

That is, if an update from TEAMtalk is to be believed.

"Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell is attracting growing interest from Manchester United and Liverpool as he enters the final year of his contract, and TEAMtalk understands that a January move is growing more likely," they wrote.

"Palace are determined to retain their reliable defender and are understood to be doing everything they can to persuade him to sign a new deal. However, interest from elsewhere could turn his head.

"Man Utd are keeping a particularly close eye on Mitchell’s situation.

"Liverpool, meanwhile, have also been linked with a potential move.

"With questions surrounding the form of Milos Kerkez, the Reds are understood to view Mitchell as a solid option to add competition and depth on the left flank.

"His status as a homegrown player would also help with squad registration rules, and sources have confirmed Liverpool are interested and monitoring his situation."

Tyrick Mitchell would be a smart transfer for Liverpool

Obviously, with Mitchell being 27 years old, Liverpool signing him would move away from their usual transfer strategy.

However, since so many of the players among their ranks are now under the age of 25, some experience would be welcome.

The contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson end in June 2027 and, since no talks between either player and Liverpool have been had about extending their stays, it feels like both of them could be edging closer to the end of their time with the Reds.

This would obviously be a massive mistake on Liverpool's behalf as, at the moment, they're arguably two of their most important players with Alisson's save against Bournemouth over the weekend proving that he's still one of the world's best 'keepers.

At the moment, it's anyone's guess who Liverpool could try and sign in the summer but, for now, the addition of Mitchell certainly feels like the sort of direction that the Reds should be heading towards for their future transfers.
