Whether it's going to be an internal solution or an external one remains to be seen.

At least for the moment, there is not much Iraola can do about the situation externally, while the transfer window is shut.

No doubt the club's recruitment team are already preparing a list of players on their shortlist who they could pursue when the window opens in January.

But right now, Iraola needs to focus on the players he has at his disposal.

Liverpool's main issues in midfield

The biggest problem Iraola has is that while individually he could make Ryan Gravenberch or Dominik Szoboszlai work in the system that he wants to play.

Especially the Hungarian, whose engine and stamina is perfectly suited to Liverpool's style of play.

However, the the two of them cannot play together. Gravenberch and Szoboszlai just doesn't fit well in that double pivot. They are too porous defensively and they do not contribute enough in the build-up.

It's a problem Iraola is going to have to solve. Liverpool have solutions in the squad. Trey Nyoni for example is someone who would be very suited to playing this role for Liverpool and he's ready to step-up and play a bigger role.

Louis Page confirms he's ready to join Liverpool

The Reds signed Nyoni from Leicester back in 2023, and it has proven to be a masterstroke.

Well now it looks like Liverpool are setting their sights on Leicester again as they search for their next recruit.

TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool scouts were present as Leicester took on Stockport County over the weekend, and were keeping an eye on Louis Page.

The England youth international is very highly rated, and he will have confirmed with his performance on the day that he's ready to make the step-up and join a club like Liverpool.

Page grabbed two assists in a 4-3 victory for his side. That was the 18-year-old's 28 appearance for his side. He's regarded as a big prospect and he now has three assists in his first five League One games.

This is a player, who is ready to play for a big club. Liverpool should be all over him.
