Liverpool have got several fringe and academy players out on loan this season. The likes of Ben Doak and Lewis Koumas have enjoyed a degree of success from their Championship loans at Middlesbrough and Stoke respectively.

Loan spells can either provide precious senior minutes in anticipation of a promotion to the first-team picture or else give the club a chance to showcase their talents to waiting buyers.

One player expected to fall into the former category at the start of the season was Stefan Bajcetic. After a severely injury-disrupted 2023/24, Bajcetic joined Red Bull Salzburg under former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders.

However, the Spain under-21 international was recalled halfway through the season after Lijnders was sacked and amid difficulty in settling into Austrian football.

Bajcetic's tough LaLiga spell

The 20-year-old was instead placed at Las Palmas in LaLiga, where he has featured in both defensive midfield and centre-back for Diego Martinez’s side.

Despite Bajcetic enduring a torrid spell with the Canary Islands side to date - they are yet to win a game with him in the lineup - he is being eyed by a European football-chasing Spanish side for a transfer at the end of the season.

Bajcetic was a youth team player at Celta Vigo before opting for a move to Liverpool when he was 16.

Celta Vigo want Bajcetic

And now according to Fichajes, Bajcetic could be set for an emotional return to his hometown club. The one condition attached to a potential deal is that Celta qualify for Europe.

Claudio Giraldez’s side are currently seventh in the top flight and are ready to execute a move for Bajcetic should continental football be secured.

It’s not yet known whether a potential move for Bajcetic would be a permanent deal or a loan. The midfielder is under contract until 2027 at Anfield and it remains to be seen whether he’s got a first-team future under Arne Slot.
