Galatasaray's Virgil van Dijk offer now only days away

Liverpool are facing a centre-back shakeup this summer.

The outgoing Premier League champions will wave goodbye to Ibrahima Konate once his contract officially expires on June 30. And there could be bids incoming for Joe Gomez - who is out of contract in 2027.

The process of renewal has already begun with the signings of Giovanni Leoni, Mor Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Jeremy Jacquet.

And one might assume that keeping Virgil van Dijk around until the end of his contract in 2027 would be integral to Liverpool’s plans given the lack of experience in the players mentioned.

Van Dijk bid incoming from Galatasaray

But that stance is going to be tested imminently.

Because a report from Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu claims that a bid from Galatasaray for Van Dijk is incoming.

"Galatasaray hasn't made a move for Van Dijk yet. I expect some movement after June 15th. Galatasaray is considering making an official offer," he said as reported by habersarikirmizi.com.

Van Dijk, 34, signed a new deal last year which is worth around £400k per week. Richard Hughes may therefore consider shedding the Dutchman’s gigantic wages as a smart financial move.

It would follow similar decisions to those taken over Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson - two high earners who will be leaving for free.

Van Dijk was not always at his best form last season alongside Konate at the centre of defence. But his quality and experience were crucial in holding the side together at times under a difficult second term for Arne Slot.

Various reports emanating from Turkey over the last couple of months suggest that the £75m defender would be interested in a move to Istanbul.

There may be a longer deal on offer with Gala - which may end up swaying Van Dijk’s thinking. Liverpool would also be entitled to a fee for the legendary stopper as he remains under contract.

This summer represents a massive clearout for Liverpool’s senior leaders - and Van Dijk could be next in line for an exit.
