Liverpool star on his way out of Anfield as Euro giants register interest
Liverpool underdelivered for their fans this season.
The Anfield outfit were expected to challenge for the Premier League title but, in the end, they failed completely.
In terms of the Champions League, they got to the round of 16 and, even though they were knocked out of the competition by the eventual winners, they should've definitely put up a better fight than they did.
This lack of form and inability to win more than three games in a row led to a rather underwhelming season and have caused many transfer rumours to emerge.
And, since the summer transfer window is now just around the corner, those rumours are only going to intensify with some of the Reds' regular starters even being linked with moves away.
Jose Mourinho wants Alexis Mac Allister at Real Madrid
Alexis Mac Allister was one of Liverpool's best signings under Jurgen Klopp.
The Argentinian midfielder only cost the Reds around £35 million and since then, he's been a regular starter and has more than proven his worth.
However, during the 2025-26 season, the midfielder was a fraction of his former self and practically forgot how to run.
Despite this, Arne Slot still had him at the top of his team sheet even though other players such as Curtis Jones were performing much better.
This enraged fans with most of them asking for Mac Allister to be moved on in the upcoming transfer window.
And, even though some rumours emerged during the season, they seemed to die down, that is, until now.
As per an update from Football Insider Real Madrid's new manager Jose Mourinho has singled out Mac Allister as someone he wants to bring to the Bernabeu ahead of their own massive rebuild.
"Liverpool could sanction Alexis Mac Allister's exit this summer if he attracts more suitors by impressing at the World Cup," they wrote.
"New Los Blancos boss Mourinho is keen to add Mac Allister to his ranks following the impending signing of Bernardo Silva.
"They have also been linked with a move for Dominik Szoboszlai, but Liverpool's reluctance to let the Hungarian star leave means a move for Mac Allister looks much more likely.
"Mac Allister's decline over the last campaign means that new Reds boss Andoni Iraola will look to add to his midfield as the 28-year-old potentially moves on."
Alexis Mac Allister would be a worthwhile sacrifice for Liverpool
As mentioned, when Mac Allister first joined Liverpool, he was an exceptional player.
And, up until this season, he was easily a guaranteed name on their team sheet.
However, now that he's 28 years old and has been rather injury prone, now is definitely the best time to move him on.
His contract is set to expire in June 2028 so, if they don't sell him now, they could end up selling him for a cur-rate fee next term or, even lose him for nothing.
This would be a travesty, especially after Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have all left Anfield on free transfers over the last couple of years.
Even though the Reds are wealthy enough to carry on like this, if they don't make sales soon, they'll end up in a terrible situation.
Here's hoping that Mourinho convinces Real Madrid to go all in on Mac Allister this summer.
