Liverpool given chance to confirm one of their most important signings

Liverpool were expected to have an entirely new-look team by now.

The Reds fell way behind their title rivals last season and, without these new additions, there's no way that they'd finish any higher than fifth.

Manchester City and Chelsea have both already spent an obscene amount of money and, with several members of their squads still expected to leave, more change is almost guaranteed.

So, in order for Liverpool to keep up with them and challenge for the Premier League title, it's clear that they're also going to have to dip their toes into the transfer market.

At the moment, only Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet have been brought in, but, over the last few days, several different rumours have emerged linking Liverpool with deals for all sorts of players.

And now, they've actually been handed the opportunity to confirm one of their most important transfers of the season.

One of Liverpool's main problem areas is their defence.

Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley are too unreliable to be regularly used as right-backs and, since Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are both coming back from long-term injuries, it's unclear how well they'll do.

Indeed, Joe Gomez is another option that Liverpool could explore but, since he's already side-lined due to injury, it's clear that he's way too unreliable to even be considered as an option.

So, the fact that Ronald Araujo is now coming to Liverpool on a season long loan with an option to buy is excellent news.

Originally, it was just thought that the Uruguayan would be coming to Anfield on a straight loan.

However, as per a fresh update from journalist Fernando Polo, Liverpool actually have an option to buy the Barcelona captain in their favour.

"As explained by Fabrizio Romano, Ronald Araujo is going on loan to Liverpool for a year WITH OPTION TO BUY for the English club," he shared via his personal X account.

"Tomorrow he will say goodbye to his teammates before they head to Udine.

"He has a contract with Barça until 2031."

Before the 2026-27 summer transfer window even opened, it was clear to most people that Liverpool would need to add at least another defender or two to their ranks.

The Reds massively under delivered last season with Arne Slot even being sacked for his short-comings.

So, a new centre-back was more of a need, rather than just a want.

A few years ago, Araujo was seen as one of the best centre-backs in the world but, after losing confidence, a couple of mistakes and a lot of abuse, he doesn't really seem like the player he once was.

However, the fact that he can cover centre-back and right-back is a massive bonus with his leadership skills also a positive aspect of his game.

The loan deal obviously doesn't have to turn into a permanent one but, if he performs well and his salary demands aren't too high, signing the Uruguayan on a permanent basis feels like a solid idea.
