Liverpool can sign their very own Rayan Cherki

Last season, Liverpool had a choice between Rayan Cherki and Florian Wirtz.

Both players were willing to join the Reds with Arne Slot even meeting up with Cherki to discuss a potential move.

In the end, Wirtz was the player who was welcomed to Anfield despite Cherki being worth around £70 million less.

Most people thought that both players would do well in the Premier League so, with this in mind, when Liverpool passed up the chance to sign the Frenchman, it was hardly surprising to see that Manchester City swooped in and got a deal over the line.

Both players were expected to carry over their performance levels from their previous teams but, in the end, only Cherki really delivered.

This led Liverpool's fans to question why Richard Hughes and Slot chose to spend well over £100 million on Wirtz when Cherki would've cost much less and would've arguably been a better signing.

However, now that things have changed at Anfield and the transfer window is back open, it seems like Liverpool could now sign their very own version of Cherki this summer.

Liverpool's attack is one of their main areas that needs upgrading this summer.

Several members of their first-team squad have left and, even though a couple have been brought in, it still doesn't feel like Liverpool have enough quality to start challenging for silverware again.

However, with the recent rumours that have emerged about Liverpool's potential transfer business, it feels like Liverpool could be about to sign some much-needed players.

Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola now feel closer to a Liverpool switch then ever.

The Paris Saint-Germain duo are both up for grabs with Luis Enrique actually wanting to get rid of the former of the two.

And now, as per a fresh update from Caught Offside, Mbaye has made a decision on his future, especially with how PSG currently see him.

"An interesting detail to be aware of here is that Mbaye has had his issues with PSG, and they’re understood to be open to a sale this summer," they wrote.

"As others have reported, it is my understanding that senior figures at the Parc des Princes have concerns about the teenager due to his fitness, weight problems, and diet.

"Sources also state he has often had trouble with being late to training, and this has led to him struggling to break into Luis Enrique’s team on a more regular basis.

"Those close to the player deny this, but there is clearly bad blood there and this has encouraged Liverpool to make a move, with talks expected to start soon."

As mentioned, Liverpool's main priority for upgrades this summer is their attack.

They have hardly any depth among their ranks and, since Mbaye would only cost around €40 million, he's an absolute steal.

The 18-year-old would also not need to be registered by Liverpool until he's 21 years old and, by then, he'd be classed as homegrown.

However, despite all of the positive aspects of the deal, the fact that he's being seen the same way as Cherki should fill Liverpool fans with hope.

Before joining City, Cherki was supposed to be overweight and lazy, or that was what was coming out of Lyon anyway.

But, when he turned up to Manchester, he was in peak physical condition as he contributed to 28 goals across all competitions.

If Mbaye can get even half of those returns for Liverpool, it'd be a massive weight off of their shoulders.

And, even though he may not be ready to start straight away, after getting used to Iraola's system and developing even further, he could easily be Liverpool's Mohamed Salah successor.

So, on paper, for a fee worth around €40 million, it feels like an absolute no-brainer.
