Liverpool are finally going to replace Xherdan Shaqiri.

When people look back on Liverpool's success under Jurgen Klopp, the focus naturally falls on the superstars. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson were the headline acts.

But every great team also needs players who are willing to play a supporting role while still delivering when it matters most, and few did that better than Shaqiri.

Shaqiri was never a guaranteed starter at Liverpool. He wasn't expected to play every week and he wasn't the face of the project. Yet he was one of the most important squad players Klopp had at his disposal because he could always be trusted to make something happen.

Whether it was coming off the bench to change a game, providing a moment of quality when Liverpool needed inspiration or stepping into the starting lineup when injuries struck, Shaqiri consistently delivered. He accepted his role, stayed ready and made an impact whenever called upon.

The perfect example came during Liverpool's famous Champions League comeback against Barcelona. With Salah and Roberto Firmino unavailable, Shaqiri stepped into the side and produced two assists in one of the greatest nights in the club's history.

It was exactly the kind of contribution that defined his time at Anfield.

That Liverpool squad was so successful because it had depth. Not just bodies on the bench, but genuine quality. Players like Shaqiri could come into the team without the overall level dropping, which allowed Klopp to compete on multiple fronts and keep the squad fresh throughout long campaigns.

It's arguably something Liverpool have missed over the last couple of seasons. The gap between the first-choice players and the alternatives has often felt too large. The best teams need more than just a strong starting XI; they need reliable difference-makers throughout the squad.

Shaqiri was exactly that. He may not have been the star of Klopp's great Liverpool side, but he was one of the players who helped make it special.

In order to make sure Andoni Iraola succeeds, Liverpool need to build a squad as equally strong as Klopp's was in their prime. It means Liverpool need to have impact players off the bench - players who the manager trusts and is ready to throw in to change games.

Obviously, star additions are needed as well. Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola to replace Salah and Cody Gakpo would be the dream in order to recreate that phenomenal trio of Mane, Salah and Firmino in their prime with Alexander Isak.

But Liverpool will need their Shaqiris and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains as well, and it looks like the Reds have agreed a deal to bring in the perfect signing.

Victor Munoz. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool have triggered his release clause and verbally agreed a move to bring the Spaniard to Anfield.

Munoz is the perfect profile because he's 22-years-old. He cost only 40 million Euros, and he's going to be a squad player. Somebody who will be able to make an impact off the bench, still play a lot of games and will be capable of starting games as well.

Like Shaqiri he is very undervalued and can change games with his directness and speed. His one vs one ability is exactly what Liverpool lacked last season.

Throwing him in against tired legs towards the end of games, is going to make Liverpool a more dangerous and unpredictable team.
