Jamie Carragher shares what he's heard about Arne Slot's future
Arne Slot has underperformed as Liverpool's manager this season.
The Dutchman may have managed to overdeliver and bring the Premier League title back to Anfield last season but this time around, nothing has gone to plan.
Injuries, a lack of cohesion and a lack of final third form have all contributed to the downfall of the reigning Premier League champions this term.
This poor form has caused the Reds' fanbase to question whether Slot is the right man to take them forward, especially with Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola available on free deals.
However, despite all of this, Fenway Sports Group haven't relieved the former Feyenoord boss of his duties just yet with Jamie Carragher now sharing what he's heard about the future of the 47-year-old.
Arne Slot will stay as Liverpool's manager if they qualify for the Champions League
Now that Liverpool have been knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain, they can no longer add any trophies to their cabinet.
The Champions League was the Reds' last hope of earning some silverware with the Anfield outfit already being knocked out of the other competitions.
A trophyless season isn't something that Liverpool fans are used to after spending years with Jurgen Klopp at the helm so it's hardly surprising to see fans wonder whether Slot is right for their club.
As mentioned, several decent options are available on the manager market at the moment but, after this fresh update from Carragher, it doesn't feel like Slot is going to be going anywhere.
"Arne Slot’s job has been spoken about all season. We’ve spoken about it a lot on Monday Night Football," he said in quotes relayed by Sky Sports.
"There’s probably a split in the Liverpool supporters over whether he should stay or go.
"The noises I am hearing is Slot will be the Liverpool manager next season if they can secure Champions League qualification, which they look like doing right now."
Arne Slot must repay the faith shown in him by FSG
Liverpool spent a lot of money trying to improve their ranks during the 2025-26 summer transfer window.
Most fans thought that the arrivals of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz would make them the best team in the world but in reality, it made them worse.
Even though their Premier League campaign started off well as they managed to win their first five games, things quickly went downhill.
And, from that point on, Slot managed to lose the support of some members from Liverpool's fanbase.
However, FSG never lost faith and now, Slot has to prove that their decision to stick by him was warranted, especially since it seems like they'll be earning qualification to the Champions League this term.
Here's hoping that Slot can turn things around next season and start to put smiles back on the faces of Liverpool's fanbase.
