Before the summer transfer window opened, Liverpool were expected to be one of the Premier League's busiest teams again.

They may have spent over £450 million on new players last term but, since Arne Slot failed to make his players meet expectations, it became clear that another rebuild was needed.

However, despite there being several areas among the Reds' ranks that still need upgrading, hardly any transfer business has taken place in L4.

Of course, Victor Munoz has been brought in but, aside from the Spaniard, it's all been fairly quiet at Anfield.

And, since there's now only just over a month left before the window slams shut, Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes really need to start getting a move on, otherwise they're going to be left behind their rivals.

Transfers can obviously take time to get over the line but, luckily for Liverpool, it seems like their fortunes may have been turned around as one of their long-term targets may end up re-emerging as a potential option for them to explore.

A deal for Yan Diomande could be back on the table for Liverpool

Before the summer transfer window even opened, Liverpool's fans were told that Yan Diomande was going to be their replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The 19-year-old had a rather spectacular season with RB Leipzig during the 2025-26 season which led to several of the biggest clubs in the world vying for his transfer.

However, the Anfield outfit were the first ones to make their interest in the Ivorian known with almost every journalist and media outlet related to Liverpool pushing that the Reds were going to get a deal done.

Obviously, this didn't end up happening as, in the end, the attacker ended up saying that he wanted to play for Paris Saint-Germain over any of the other teams interested in signing him.

From that point on, everyone expected Diomande to make the move to the Parc des Princes but, around two or three weeks on from that bombshell, an agreement between the Parisians and Leipzig still hasn't been reached.

This, according to Bild, has led to Diomande's agents ROC Nation trying to add extra 'pressure' onto PSG in order to force their hand into making a move.

But, since this hasn't worked yet, another Liverpool hijack could be just around the corner.

"It's also clear: there's a lot of buzz surrounding him; according to BILD, five top clubs are vying for the winger (Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City). It's all pointing towards a bidding war – RB Leipzig are demanding at least €120 million," Bild wrote.

"Diomande has agreed to a contract with his preferred club, PSG, until 2031, but there hasn't been an official offer yet.

"Reportedly, Diomande's entourage, including the powerful consulting agency 'Roc Nation,' is now putting pressure on PSG. A clear commitment is needed, and talks with Leipzig must be accelerated – to avoid the risk of another club intercepting the deal.

"RB Leipzig, however, wants to extend his contract beyond 2030 and keep him in Leipzig for at least another season. Rumor has it that fewer and fewer people at the club believe this will happen. The Instagram incident would certainly support that view."

Liverpool signing Yan Diomande would prove they're ready to challenge for the Premier League title

Diomande may only be 19 years old but, the quality he has shown with RB Leipzig over the course of the 2025-26 season is impeccable.

The attacker contributed to 23 goals across all competitions and, no matter which wing he was used on, he was just as effective on either side.

That versatility is another one of the main reasons why Liverpool want to get a deal for the attacker over the line.

Signing Diomande would also be a massive statement of intent from Liverpool and a sign of how much they're trusting Iraola to bring happiness to Anfield.

Without signing another winger, there is no way that the Reds do any better than they did under Slot last term which will lead to fans demanding change once again.

Indeed, signing Diomande may still not be possible but, if there's any chance that a move for the attacker could get over the line, Hughes and Iraola need to put everything they can into it without even thinking about how much it could potentially cost.
