You won't believe this, Arne Slot has just made his most bizarre comment yet
Arne Slot has just said the most bizarre thing he could have said.
Liverpool have been shambles all season and the club's head-coach has been responsible for a lot of the shortcomings at Anfield.
Slot has been unable to inspire his team, who have been on a barren run.
When Liverpool have won just nine of their last 26 matches in the Premier League - enduring 10 defeats in the process - you'd expect the club's head-coach to motivate and inspire his players.
Slot seems to do the opposite. Liverpool's stars look a shadow of themselves in these games.
And the Reds can count themselves very lucky that they are still in with a chance of fighting for the Champions League.
Obviously, though they stand no chance of that if they continue to perform in the way they have been performing all season - especially not in the way they performed against Manchester City on Saturday in the FA Cup.
And there's an even more dreaded Champions League quarter final coming up against Slot's favourite foe in Paris Saint Germain.
You're supposed to be looking forward to a Champions League quarter-final as a Liverpool fan. But with Slot this isn't necessarily the case.
After the capitulation at Manchester City, Liverpool fans have every right to dread what is about to come against one of the best teams in Europe.
You hope there would be a surprise. But if Liverpool play like they have all season, and so does PSG, this game could get real ugly, real fast.
And ultimately, it will turn into the kind of game, you don't want to be watching.
Like we said, at times like this the players turn to the head-coach who is supposed to give them confidence and belief.
But instead of doing that, and giving a motivating and rousing speech during his press conference, something Jurgen Klopp will surely have done, Slot ended-up blabbering and giving his more bizarre statement to date.
The Dutchman was asked about the absence of Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili coming in to play this game.
Normally, as the head-coach, you're supposed to inspire and accentuate the qualities of your back-up player coming into a magnitude of a game like this.
That's what Klopp would have done. He called Caoimhin Kelleher the best second choice goalkeeper in the world.
Well, Slot has seemingly done the opposite in his press conference.
“We prepared for the game and if it goes as I hope, we don't need the goalkeeper but is that realistic? PSG score in all their games except for one. They are so offensive with quality and you need a good goalkeeper but for 35 mins at the Etihad, we didn't need one. I was hoping he'd save a few."
That last comment, it's such an unnecessary dig at Mamardashvili and it's not the kind of words that will inspire the Georgian.
It's also a very bizarre thing for a manager to be saying, and it's probably the most bizarre comment he has ever made given how important of a game this is in Mamardashvili's career and Liverpool's.
