Liverpool aren't going to sack Arne Slot and here's why. Won't sack him for now, anyway.

The pressure continues to rise on Arne Slot after Liverpool sunk to yet another defeat on Wednesday. This time it came in the UEFA Champions League as PSV Eindhoven won 4-1 at Anfield.

That’s now back-to-back defeats at Anfield by three goals. They’ve come in a matter of days, too, while it’s actually three defeats by three goals in three games home and away.

Nine defeats in 12? That’s just another way of highlighting how bad things are right now - it’s the worst run of form by a Liverpool side for 76 years.

Or how about just 21 wins from Liverpool’s last 42 games in all competitions? There’s essentially no way of looking at the Reds right now in a positive light.

And yet, we don’t think Liverpool will sack him and that’s certainly the line from major outlets right now. It’s for an entirely understandable reason.

Why Liverpool won't sack Slot - yet

The context of Slot's arrival is an important one. He's the first major decision of the post-Jurgen Klopp era and more importantly, the first of the Richard Hughes era.

Slot's hiring was backed by the group that plan to lead Liverpool forward and it will be incredibly difficult to turn thir back on that plan. It's admitting defeat - and admitting it shortly after the Premier League title was won.

That's a gigantic decision and a massive blow to those who put all their faith in this plan. They will not make that decision lightly and almost certainly won't make it until there are no more avenues to explore.

One of those avenues is to reshape the team in January, which is a little over a month away. It's very difficult to envision Slot's dismissal before that opportunity arrives.

Now, if the defeats truly keep coming until then, there won't be another choice. But a couple more wins would almost certainly see Slot through to the winter window and give Liverpool a chance to shake things up in a way that isn't as all-encompassing as moving on the head coach.
