Update from Ecuador gives Liverpool hope in Caicedo pursuit

Sources from Ecuador suggest that Moisés Caicedo has not yet ruled out the possibility of joining Liverpool, despite earlier reports stating that he had declined their offer in favour of joining Chelsea.

According to teradeportes, the situation at present is not so straightforward. Rather than declining the Reds' offer, the Ecuadorian outlet claims that Caicedo wants to provide Chelsea with the opportunity to match Liverpool's £111-million offer to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Teradeportes also claims that Caicedo is currently "confused" as to why Brighton didn't consider Chelsea's offer, with the player and club having agreed personal terms in May, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea, who didn't meet Brighton's £100-million asking price in a three-way auction for Caicedo on Thursday, are reportedly preparing to take advantage of Caicedo's reluctance to head to Anfield and increase their bid to outmatch their rivals.

If Chelsea indeed raise their offer and Brighton accept, it's unlikely that Liverpool would then up their offer knowing Caicedo's preference for another club.

As things stand, Liverpool seems to be waiting, possibly hoping that Chelsea won't be able to secure the necessary funds, while working to persuade the Ecuadorian to come to the northwest.
