THREE Liverpool contract deals hit major roadblock

The future of some of Liverpool's squad is massively concerning.

Over the next couple of years, the contracts of several members of Arne Slot's first-team squad are set to expire which is far from ideal.

Indeed, their £450 million+ spend in the summer will have helped them plan for this but with players such as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk set to leave Anfield next term, the Reds could end up having some massive shoes to fill.

And, while fans may think that there's plenty of money left in the Reds' war chest, it seems like that isn't the case.

Liverpool are getting close to spending £500 million in wages per year

Last season, Liverpool's wage bill creeped over £400 million per year for the first-time ever.

Players such as Salah and Van Dijk were then handed extensions to take their earnings to around £400k-per-week.

With this in mind alongside all their bonuses and the other deals that players will have agreed to, it puts Slot's men dangerously close to that £500m mark.

And, with the futures of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate still up in the air, it's unclear whether there will be enough wriggle room for any future negotiations which is why talks seem to have stalled with all three players.

A recent report from Deloitte has helped confirm this with the outlet confirming that Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea were the only other top-flight teams to break the £400 million mark.

Liverpool's exact total was around £421 million with their wages taking about 60 per cent of their total revenue.

However, since their growth was so large, on paper, the Anfield outfit dropped down to 60 per cent from 63 per cent the season before (2023-24).

So, with this in mind, could this be why contract talks have stalled between Liverpool and most of their players?

Liverpool have a lot of questions to answer over the next year or so.

Alongside player renewals, the futures of Slot, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are all also up in the air.

For example, with the form that Szoboszlai has been in this term, it's clear how essential he is to the way that things run at Liverpool, and, without him among their ranks, Slot's men would be far worse off.

Whereas, someone such as Konate has caused nothing but problems which could make Liverpool wonder whether he's even worth keeping on at all.

Of course, there's still plenty of time for things to change, but, at the moment, the Reds could be forced into making some rather tough decisions over the next month or so, especially if their players' demands continue increasing.
