The next Roberto Firmino is coming to Liverpool

Michael Edwards made no secret of his favourite signing for Liverpool in his 2022 farewell letter.

He didn’t name him directly, but he did mention that he had named his dog Bobby. At the time, there was only one Bobby in the Liverpool squad: the brilliant Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian had a rare gift. He could dazzle fans with flair and creativity, yet remain completely selfless, always putting the team first.

Firmino was an exceptional player, and an outstanding signing. Today, looking back at his Liverpool career, it's easy to see his quality, but before joining Liverpool, he wasn’t widely expected to reach world-class level.

He first rose to prominence in Europe with Hoffenheim, where Edwards and his recruitment team identified him as a player with huge potential, based on both data and live scouting.

Their judgment proved spot on. Firmino went on to become a huge success at Anfield.

Now Edwards is back at Liverpool and his path could take him back to Hoffenheim to repeat the same trick and sign Liverpool's 'next Firmino.'

Right now, Hoffenheim are hiding a great gem who seems destined to join Liverpool based on his playing style which makes him tailor-made for Arne Slot's current system.

So who are we talking about? Let us introduce you to him...

Why Bazoumana Toure can be Liverpool's next Firmino

Bazoumana Toure, you've never heard of him right? Well, Liverpool scouts have. The club's recruitment team have been watching him extensively and he is on the club's radar ahead of the summer window.

The Ivorian has spent most of his senior career in Sweden playing for Hammarby, which is where Hoffenheim spotted him.

He signed for the German side last January. The first six months were about settling into the pace and rhythm of things.

But this season, he's really exploded into one of the most exciting young players in the league, registering the most assists (11) among U23 players in the league.

Toure is one of the fastest players in the Bundesliga with a top speed exceeding 36km/h.

He has the best dribble completion rate out of players who average at least 4.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga (69%).

He has made the most sprints (632) in the Bundesliga this season - and this is with missing several games of the campaign due to being at the African Cup of Nations.

On top of that, Toure ranks second for possession-adjusted interceptions (3.59) and 3.12 recoveries per 90 minutes in the opposition's final third among his positional peers.

He ranks 7th for possessions won in the opposition's final third (1.0 per 90) in the Bundesliga overall as well.

He's not a forward like Firmino, but that's good. Liverpool don't need forwards at the moment. They need wingers. After losing Luis Diaz in the summer and Mohamed Salah leaving this summer - he is exactly what the Reds need.

Toure is the perfect option. He's quick and he can make an impact in the final third. Crucially, he's left-footed and while he has been playing as a left-winger, he can also be used on the right.

The versatility that he has makes him even more appealing from Liverpool's point of view.

He's only 20-years-old. The sky is the limit for him.

Given his price tag being only €40m, it just feels like this is the move that is going to happen for Liverpool. In the process, Edwards will be bringing his next Firmino.
