The next James Milner has broken onto the scene and he's exactly what Liverpool need.

What an icon the former Reds midfielder was. Milner was probably one of the most reliable players under Jurgen Klopp's reign at Anfield.

No matter the game or the weather, he could always be trusted to step-up and put in a strong performance. Whether that was in midfield, right-back, left-back or wherever else Klopp needed him to play.

Milner was the definition of a utility man. His industrious nature and his game-intelligence meant that he could simply play anywhere and that's why he could play at the club for so long.

He was never a flashy player - but he did what was asked of him and he consistently won his duels and was extremely reliable.

That's why he's continuing to play at Brighton in the Premier League, even after leaving the club two years ago and even though he's now reached 40-years-old.

Milner is a colossus, and that is exactly the kind of player Arne Slot's side needs right now.

Finding a reliable squad player is sometimes the most difficult job of the recruitment process. You not only have to find a player who is competent and who would be satisfied with a squad role but you also have to look for someone who can play multiple roles and who is undervalued.

There is however, a very competent player who may be open to a move to Anfield and who could be Liverpool's next Milner having just burst onto the scene at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

Let us introduce you to Alexander Prass. You will likely never have heard of him. He's not the type of player who attracts attention. He's not flashy.

But he does the things he needs to do incredibly well and consistently.

Prass is 24-years-old and he was actually brought to Hoffenheim by his former coach Christian Ilzer, who worked with him at Sturm Graz where they won the Austrian Bundesliga.

It's always a good sign when a coach wants to work with a player not just in one team but two.

That shows you how much Ilzer trusts Prass.

But Ilzer's trust of Prass stretches even further than this. Under the Austrian coach, Prass has become a utility man at Hoffenheim.

He's been used as a full-back and a wing-back on the left and right side of midfield and he's also been deployed as a central midfielder.

In his most recent performance against RB Leipzig, Prass was used all over the park, starting the game in midfield, then switching to right-winger and finishing the match at left-back.

Even though Hoffenheim lost, Prass was by far his side's best player winning seven of his 11 ground duels and also drawing the most fouls in the game (4).

It was a very Milner esque performance and given the fact that Prass was only signed for €12m two years ago by Hoffenheim, he might just be available for a decent price this summer.

Even if Hoffenheim want to double their investment, at €24m signing a player who could cover left and right-back thus ensuring Dominik Szoboszlai never has to play there again, while also giving Liverpool more depth in midfield, would be money well spent.

It's exactly why Milner played for Liverpool so long, and now his second-coming in Prass is exactly who the Reds should sign.
