Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has opened up on the Reds' start to the 2022-23 campaign.

Liverpool have been well off the pace in the early stages of the season. The Reds sit in 10th-place on the Premier League table.

Van Dijk has made it clear that there is nothing him and his teammates can do to change the results.

But, the Dutchman wants to see a huge improvement from everyone associated with the club going forward.

"That’s the reality. We can’t change it now," he told the club's official website.

"Like I said, the only thing we can do is try to win the next game ahead of us. We know in the league it is going to be quite a tough one but first we have to recover, look at today (and) what we can do better because there will be plenty of moments that we can all do better.

"(We have to) focus on the Champions League because we have a big job there as well and then we’ll focus on the league again. The games come thick and fast – we just have to be ready."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Van Dijk is spot on. The opening phase of the season has come and gone. All Liverpool can do now is look ahead and improve as a team.

The Reds will face Rangers at the Ibrox Stadium on Wednesday night. The aforementioned Champions League group stage fixture will be a tough one for Liverpool.

The Rangers supporters know how to create a hostile atmosphere. Liverpool will need to be up for the clash.
