Surprise LAST-MINUTE addition could start for Liverpool tonight

Liverpool have made a last-minute addition to their UEFA Champions League squad to face Qarabag.

Liverpool take on Qarabag tonight and know they're in a very comfortable position. Win at home against the Azerbaijani side and the Reds will qualify for the last 16, skipping the play-off round.

It's unbelievable, really, that Liverpool are in such a position of strength. In fact, it's a sign that the league phase of the UEFA Champions League perhaps isn't the greatest measure of success.

They've lost twice in their seven games, after all. Galatasaray saw out a win in Turkey before PSV Eindhoven comfortably beat Liverpool at Anfield 4-1.

And yet, Arne Slot's team are on the brink of finishing inside the top eight.

However, things might not be smooth tonight. Liverpool are very low on defenders, with Giovanni Leoni, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez all out of this one.

It means Virgil van Dijk is the sole senior centre-back in the squad. And he might need to see this one through with a late addition.

Amara Nallo in the squad

Liverpool have officially added Amara Nallo to their B-List squad for tonight. It means the young centre-back is eligible to play and could potentially start with the Reds down so many options.

It's a surprise, too - Nallo was thought to be injured and unable to take part in this one. It appears he's overcome the problem very late in the day, allowing Liverpool to include him like this.

Now, that may not mean he's fit enough to start but we're hopeful there. Nallo is a big talent, even if his first-team ventures thus far have ended in red cards.

This is a glorious opportunity to hand him some proper first-team minutes and maybe help his development along.That's something that young centre-backs struggle to find at the elite level - but Nallo has it here.

Fingers crossed, then. Nallo brings a bit more depth to the squad with his addition and at a time when Liverpool desperately need it.
