Star is now set to STAY at Liverpool
There's now going back for one star at Liverpool, he will stay at the club.
We're closing in on the January window and there's all sorts of possibilities about the business the Reds could be doing. It's going to be a very interesting time for the club.
Normally, Liverpool are now a busy team in January. But right now there are extraordinary circumstances that are going to have an impact on the club's chances of having a successful season.
With injuries mounting up Liverpool's forward line looks particularly vulnerable. The latest update on Alexander Isak is that he's expected to be out for several months having fractured his lower leg against Tottenham.
It means that Liverpool are now without him and Mohamed Salah for the next month at least. Who knows what will happen to Salah now in January as well.
Not to mention Cody Gakpo is also injured.
Liverpool's forward line looks very thin, and this means one player is guaranteed to stay.
Given the fact that it's a World Cup year, Federico Chiesa will likely would have wanted to move on in January to give himself a chance of getting in the Italy squad, should they qualify for the tournament.
Liverpool would have probably been open to sanctioning that move, especially if they had recruited someone like Antoine Semenyo.
However, the latest update on Isak completely changes that. With the Swede now set to miss several months, there's no way Liverpool are going to let Chiesa leave, even if a new attacker is brought in.
Instead Chiesa is going to have to stay and play the back-up role. Something he is very comfortable at doing but ultimately he deserves a lot more time on the pitch.
The Italian has been fantastic every time he puts on the shirt for Liverpool.
With Gakpo, Isak and Salah missing for Wolverhampton, there's a good chance he may finally get a start at the weekend in the Premier League.
It's an opportunity for Chiesa to make his mark. He'll know full well that he will now have to stay at the club, so the best chance of him making Italy's squad is if he continues to work hard and hopefully fights his way up the pecking order at Anfield.
This is the extra motivation he needs. Isak's injury is devastating, but it's an opportunity for Chiesa to finally show Slot that he is capable of being a genuine option, and not just someone to bring off the bench as an emergency or to play in the cup games.
Liverpool fans obviously wouldn't begrudge Chiesa if he left the club, but right now it looks like he will be here until the end of the season, and that is a small solace to take from the terrible injury news.
