Special midfielder WILL be Liverpool's next signing
Liverpool are looking to sign an elite midfielder in the upcoming two windows and one special talent is ready to join.
Whether it's in January or next summer, Richard Hughes knows the next objective for him after signing a centre-back is to bring in an elite midfielder.
Arne Slot's side lost the impact of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the build-up, which is something they cannot replicate from any of their full-backs.
On top of that, they are also losing a lot of duels in midfield.
Bringing in a midfielder who excels both in his passing and duels could fix all of their problems and make the Reds more compact and harder to beat.
A lot of fans right now are very keen on Adam Wharton to come in and play this role. However, he's not the only option. There's another midfielder who looks even more inevitable to be the club's next signing.
Looking around elite midfielders in the Premier League there is one player who simply stands out from the rest. A player who is setting the standard week in, week out and absolutely dominating in all the metrics where Liverpool are lacking.
That player in question is Elliot Anderson.
Recently, Sky Sports on their Monday Night football show highlighted a graphic that measures line breaking passes against tackles per 90 minutes.
The player who stood-out with both his tackles and his passes was Anderson, as you can see in the clip here.
This is no surprise. He has made the most passes into the final third (88) and the most progressive passes (89) in the Premier League so far this season.
On top of that he has also made the most recoveries (85) in all of Europe's top five leagues and he ranks among the top 20 midfielders in the Premier League for possession-adjusted interceptions (4.73 per 90).
Based on the numbers alone there's so much to like about Anderson. The 23-year-old excels in all the metrics you'd look for when it comes to a midfielder.
He makes important line-breaking passes and he gets back and defends. He is very valuable for his team not only in maintaining possession but in the build-up, too.
It's no surprise that he's now starting to be a key part of Thomas Tuchel's plans for the England national team as well.
Beyond the numbers, Anderson's energy and ability to cover a lot of ground is something Liverpool need.
Right now for a lot of this season it feels like only Dominik Szoboszlai has maintained that energy in midfield. He can't do it alone and that's why Anderson seems like the perfect fit.
The prospect of him playing alongside Szoboszlai in the midfield is simply mouth-watering.
Anderson is definitely ready to make the step-up to a bigger team. With Nottingham Forest's struggles this season, it feels inevitable that they are going to have to make a big sale at some point.
Right now, Anderson is the player they could sell to make the most money in their squad.
For Liverpool he seems like the club's logical next move. Hughes wants to add an elite midfielder; there aren't many as good as Anderson right now.
So, this is a now brainer, and for us very much the club's inevitable next signing. Keep an eye out on Anderson.
