One Liverpool star may have played his final match for Liverpool. Was that the end?

Curtis Jones may have played his final Liverpool match. It's a strange thought, given he's been around for such a long time, but his injury on Saturday could have been the end.

Jones will enter the final year of his contract this summer and it's widely expected that Liverpool will be open to offers for him. They were at least semi-open to them in January, with Inter believing they could sign the Scouser at one stage.

There will be more interest come the summer. Jones is an experienced, homegrown player available for under his market value - something that will inevitably draw Premier League interest, let alone from European clubs seeking a strong investment.

And that's what makes the injury on Saturday potentially heartbreaking. Jones hasn't had the best luck with injuries and there are only six weeks left of the season.

An injury now that takes too long to recover from - and six weeks is certainly within reason for a groin injury - and that's that. The end of his Liverpool career should the club decide to sell.

Hopefully, Jones recovers quickly and can play again this season. But then, we're also simply hoping he isn't sold.

Curtis Jones: Situation Summary

Performance and Role Under Slot

Curtis Jones has maintained his status as a valuable squad player for Liverpool during the 2025–2026 campaign. As of April 12, 2026, the 25-year-old midfielder has made 41 appearances across all competitions, though he has found starting opportunities limited, with just 12 starts in the Premier League. Despite the heavy competition in Arne Slot’s midfield, Jones has recorded an impressive 93% passing accuracy, showcasing the technical reliability Slot demands. While he has yet to score in the league this season, his versatility and homegrown status remain key assets for the club during their transitional period.

Injury Concern and Contract Status

Jones is currently a major doubt for Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain after sustaining a groin injury on April 11. He was forced off at half-time during a 2–0 victory over Fulham, with Slot expressing scepticism regarding his availability for the midweek European clash. Off the pitch, Jones’ future has been the subject of frequent speculation; while his current contract runs until June 2027, the club reportedly blocked a €40 million loan-to-buy offer from Inter Milan during the January 2026 window. Although renewal talks are reportedly ongoing, interest from other major European clubs persists as he enters the final 18 months of his deal.
