Saudi giants enter mega talks with Liverpool star

Saudi Arabian giants have entered talks to sign one of Liverpool's most important players.

Over the last few years since the Saudi Pro League has emerged on the footballing landscape, the Reds have conducted plenty of business with teams from the division.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Darwin Nunez were all sold to Saudi Arabian sides.

Meanwhile, other former Liverpool players like Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum have also ended up playing in the league.

It has become a real hub for Liverpool's former stars, and a fair few of them have done extremely well. Firmino won the Asian Champions League with his side Al Ahli, Mane continues to set new records with Al Nassr, and Nunez is playing really well at Al Hilal.

So, it's no surprise that the Saudis are looking to sign yet another Liverpool player, but this time they are coming for the club's biggest stars.

We all have a feeling there are going to be key departures come the summer window. Liverpool are going through a transition period. There have already been some significant changes made to the squad.

But there will be even more come the summer.

And that will likely see the departure of Mohamed Salah. He came close to leaving in January but ultimately his focus was on the African Cup of Nations.

He will have one last hurrah in a Liverpool shirt. However, with his contract expiring in 2027, the club are unlikely to extend his deal. Nor do they want to see him leave on a free transfer in 18 months time.

So, the summer makes the most sense for the two to part ways and it looks like Salah is already preparing to make that move.

According to Foot Mercato, Saudi side Al Ittihad have entered talks over a mega deal for Salah. The move would happen in the summer window and there is no suggestion over the terms Salah would be receiving.

However, one would assume it would be quite a hefty fee.

Al Ittihad's two biggest earners N'Golo Kante and Karim Benzema both left the club in the January transfer window, so the Saudi side should have plenty of reserves to be able to afford Salah.

Obviously, they don't only have to come to an agreement with the Egyptian but they will also have to agree a fee with Liverpool over his transfer.

The Reds will be looking for a significant sum for a player who while not his best this season is still up there as one of the best in the world and he is by far and away one of the biggest stars in the game as well.

Salah won't come cheap. But the deal will work for Liverpool in terms of generating more revenue, especially if they miss out on Champions League football.
