Ruben Amorim wants to STEAL England midfielder from Liverpool
Liverpool declined to make any purchases in the midfield sector last summer - despite lavishing the squad with £450m worth of spending.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo are set for another gruelling season - unless sporting director Richard Hughes decides to go into the market for reinforcements.
Right now it would appear the priority is to renew the contracts of Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai - and there will soon be a requirement to extend Jones and Mac Allister too.
Adam Wharton a Liverpool target
But Liverpool cannot afford to take their eye off the ball when it comes to midfielder signings - but if they are not careful then they are going to be beaten to the punch to one target.
Adam Wharton is one of several names on the list - with the Crystal Palace midfielder increasingly linked with an Anfield switch.
The England international - who looks set to travel to the FIFA World Cup with Thomas Tuchel’s squad next summer - has been at Selhurst Park since winter 2024.
Man Utd step up Wharton chase
He has grown in stature following his move from Blackburn Rovers - winning the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Eagles in that time frame.
The 21-year-old is under contract with Oliver Glasner’s side until 2029 - excelling in the Austrian coach’s 3-4-3 formation.
And now a report from Indy Kaila is claiming that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is intent on solving his team’s midfield issues with a bid for Wharton.
Man Utd submit Wharton bid
“My contact at the club are telling me that bid has been submitted for Adam Wharton. Ruben Amorim loves the player and believes he can sell the project to Adam before Liverpool contact the player,” the report reads.
Obviously joining Liverpool will present more of an appeal to any player right now than Man Utd. They have yet to find their way back to the Champions League and are not competing for the major prizes.
But the Red Devils can put together an attractive package for any player - and Liverpool must match United’s interest if they are serious about Wharton.
