Liverpool have already been through plenty of turmoil this season despite not even being halfway through.

Most fans thought that they'd be close to unstoppable but in reality, they've been much worse than they were last term.

Players such as Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate have been miles off the pace with Arne Slot even saying that the Frenchman was at the "crime scene" too much against Leeds United on Saturday.

And, since the centre-back's contract is set to expire at the end of the term, it isn't all that surprising to see questions being asked about his future.

So, that's why it isn't all that much of a surprise to see Slot handing golden opportunities to some of his younger players in a bid to try and save Liverpool millions.

Wellity Lucky could save Liverpool millions if Arne Slot's plan works out

As mentioned, the 2025-26 season has been far from smooth sailing for the Anfield outfit.

Their Premier League title hopes seem to be in tatters and unless some serious changes are made in January, it's hard to see how they'll get much further in the Champions League.

However, since every club across the world can see that the Reds need defensive reinforcement, any potential targets that they eye will have massively inflated prices.

This is why, after Wellity Lucky was included in Liverpool's Champions League squad, he could be about to save the Anfield outfit millions.

Wellity Lucky must prove his worth to Liverpool to try and save them overspending in January

Everyone knows that in the 2025-26 summer transfer window, Marc Guehi was one of the Reds' main targets.

The centre-back was moments away from signing for Liverpool but in the end, Steve Parish decided he was too important to Crystal Palace.

This resulted in Liverpool being left with just four senior centre-backs and since Giovanni Leoni tore his ACL, they now have three.

So, in order for Lucky to save the Reds millions, Slot needs to trust him and give him an opportunity to prove his worth.

He's already chosen to take him with the Reds' Champions League squad to face Inter Milan on Tuesday evening and, with what he said about Konate after the Leeds game, it feels like the Frenchman's days are numbered, especially since his contract is set to expire.

Indeed, a Champions League debut would be a massive step up for the 19-year-old but with since Liverpool's Under-21 coach has already said that he's "rock-solid" there's not that much for the Reds to lose.

Because, if it does end up working out, they could save themselves millions and target other areas to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window.
