Richard Hughes has agreed a really genius January transfer that no one has noticed so far.

The Liverpool sporting director has been under a little bit of fire this season. For all the praise Hughes received in the summer, he has been a little bit under pressure ever since as Liverpool continue to misfire.

However, a lot of this is unnecessary criticism. Hughes has the long-term picture in mind for Liverpool. His signings haven't all gotten going just yet but they will.

They are all young and they just need time to adjust and also for Arne Slot to figure out an actual beneficial system for Liverpool.

All of that takes time and patience and unfortunately a lot of fans do not have that in the modern era.

But in the long-term it can absolutely pay off for Hughes. There's a chance Liverpool could create another super team in the coming years ahead.

The club's sporting director is a shrewd negotiator, and he has shown he can deliver some of the best and most lucrative deals in the industry.

He held his ground to pull off the transfer of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. He pulled off a genius negotiation to sign Hugo Ekitike.

And he has continued to sell Liverpool's fringe players effectively for significant amounts of money.

January may have been a quiet period for Hughes but he still managed to make a few smart signings.

Everyone will focus on the brilliant deal for Jeremy Jacquet which will see the Frenchman join the Reds in the summer.

But there should also be focus on an excellent loan deal Hughes sanctioned that could help Liverpool make millions.

It went under the radar, or rather nobody really noticed that towards the end of the window Lewis Koumas was recalled from his loan at Birmingham City and sent out on loan again - this time to Hull City.

Hughes has done this move before, recalling Stefan Bajcetic from Red Bull Salzburg only to send him on loan to Las Palmas.

At the time it was a genius move and it has proved to be a genius move once again.

Liverpool's Welsh international, Koumas, is thriving at his new club. He's only started two games for Hull City but he already has two goals and more important, he is playing a lot more minutes and getting a lot more opportunities to showcase his talent in his best role, which is a more central one, where he can run in behind defences.

Koumas is now becoming a bit of a fan favourite at Hull already and this loan could have a profound impact on the 20-year-old's career.

It's all thanks to Hughes.
