Three NEW Dutch stars could join Arne Slot's super team
Liverpool have been eyeing a lot of different players ahead of this summer and a clear theme has developed with regard to the type of players that are being targeted.
Arne Slot is yet to really get the chance to imprint his ideas on the team beyond changing the tactical approach that the players follow, although this summer he should finally have a budget to spend.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ready to sign midfielder BETTER than Martin Zubimendi
It is often difficult to work out what Liverpool's plans in the transfer market are going to be, given FSG rarely seem to splash the cash unlike many of the club's rivals, although the demands on the shopping list are pretty clear - a decent amount of work needs to take place.
The forward line needs refreshing and the defensive set-up will need some serious investment if it is to have any chance of delivering another title-challenging campaign next season.
But within those areas, two particularly concrete links have been created with players prior to the opening of the transfer window and they both share the same quality - they're Dutch.
Liverpool or the Netherlands' national team?
Prior to any summer arrivals, it is clear that Liverpool appreciate the footballing talent that is coming out of Holland, with Virgil Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch all commanding first-team roles in the side, which is now managed by Bergentheim's own Arne Slot.
The national side - managed by Ronald Koeman - was unfortunately knocked out by Spain during in the quarter-finals of the Nations League back in March and the country's hopes in last year's European Championship were only dampened by a semi-final exit to England.
As such, their recent success seems to have been in part due to some of Liverpool's players' efforts and other members of the team are now subject to interest from the Reds in attempt to bring the connection the countrymen have for their national side to Merseyside.
At first, Liverpool were linked to Dean Huijsen - a Spanish centre-back who could help replace either Van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate, although he could easily be brought in to just add defensive depth.
While this link was inconspicuous at first, we were then linked to Jorrel Hato, a young hybrid full-back/centre-back who would offer flexibility as a potential replacement for Andy Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas at left-back while providing depth for the central defenders.
And while the two have different nationalities, Huijsen was actually born in Holland and he speaks Dutch - he decided to change nationality in order to represent Spain in February 2024.
So in theory, if the pair were signed then Liverpool would be getting two Dutch players and both moves would be incredibly beneficial to helping the team become more compact moving forward.
But then you look to the other side of the pitch, with Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid and the main player who is linked to replace him is also in fact Dutch, with Jeremie Frimpong appearing in a lot of the reports from reliable transfer journalists.
He would offer a far more attacking option to the defence compared to the other two links, but if Liverpool are conscious that a lot of recruitment is needed, then all three could plausibly join.
Of course, this theory might stop there, as the other possible recruits would likely represent different nationalities, but that would still leave us with six Dutch players and a manager on our books.
EXCLUSIVE: Richard Hughes targets TWO Serie A stars for Liverpool
Whether this is planned or mere coincidence will have to be analysed at a later date, but it certainly feels like a coherent theme is developing in our policy and it's a fascinating one to follow.
